Hello! This is Jesse.
Here you can learn more about me as an instructor including my official bio, past experience, and teaching philosophy!
Teaching is one of my favorite things in the world. I spend a LOT of time thinking about it (more on that in the philosophy section).
You can feel confident that I’ll always show up ready and excited to teach people more about the amazing world of wild food!

Teaching Philosophy
My ultimate goal of teaching is to provide my students with the tools and knowledge to become effective and responsible foragers.
In pursuit of this goal, I not only think about what I should teach, but also how I should teach it.
I’m as passionate about pedagogy as I am foraging, so every one of my classes has been meticulously designed to teach my students as effectively as possible.
Some of the important components of my approach to teaching includes:
- Focus on fundamentals – important concepts that apply broadly to a skill within foraging
- Hands-on learning – telling you how to do something is good, showing is better, and you actually taking part is best!
If you’d like to view examples of my teaching style and approach, you can check out some of the videos on my YouTube channel!
Instructor Bio
Jesse is a forager and wants you to be one too! He has taught thousands of students to bring wild food into their lives through in-person foraging walks and online videos on his educational platform, Feral Foraging.
He is particularly obsessed with discovering and developing better methods of gathering and processing wild food, making it easier and more accessible for everything to develop this vital relationship with nature.
Jesse helps his students build a strong foundation for the rest of their foraging journey, emphasizing the importance of developing their fundamentals and showing them how to put it all together, brick-by-brick!
Past Experience
While I have just started teaching more at regional events, I do have extensive experience teaching through local foraging walks and workshops.
I lead monthly walks through Feral Foraging where we focus on finding, identifying, and utilizing difference wild food species.
We also talk about methods of gathering and processing these species.
I also, of course, have a lot of experience of teaching to a large online audience through my YouTube channel and social media pages.
