In this workshop\, we will give you an overview of common trees in Alabama and a roadmap for identifying any tree you may come across! \nThe workshop comprises a mix of both lecture and field study. We’ll start in the classroom and then head to the woods to apply everything we’ve learned! DESCRIPTION:We will hold a free educational plant walk on a private property in NE Alabama from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. CST on December 5th\, 2020! \nThis walk is on the fundamentals of foraging\, with a focus on winter foraging skills. \nWe will cover: \n\nWinter Tree Identification (using twigs\, buds\, and bark)\nPopular winter edible plants and mushrooms\nHow to scout for future foraging seasons\nEthical & sustainable harvesting practices\nTips for accelerating for foraging skillset\n\nDirections\nWe will first meet in the parking lot at the Five Points Quick Stop (Address: 1202 Adamsburg Rd E\, Fort Payne\, AL 35967) before driving together to the property. SUMMARY:NAFC | Rainbow Mountain I.D. Invasion
DESCRIPTION:This November instead of having our typical species walks we are going to mix things up a bit! The North Alabama Foraging club will be hosting its very first I.D. Invasion. This will be very similar to a BioBlitz or foray if you’ve been to one in the past\, but if not\, it will generally work like this: \nWe will meet as a group in a common starting location to discuss the nature of the event. Then we’ll also go out for about an hour or so looking for any plant/mushroom that might catch our eye. We’ll gather specimens and then take them all back to our starting location and then try to identify as many as we can! It’s a really great way to see just how much is out there and learn a bunch of new species. \nYou are encouraged to bring your favorite identification books\, a foraging basket as well as tin foil/parchment paper in order to keep specimens separated. We are very much looking forward to seeing you there!

DESCRIPTION:The North Alabama Foraging Club September Plant Walk will take place Saturday\, September the 21th at 10:00 am! We will meet at the Rainbow Mountain Trail-head. \nThis meeting will comprise of a short introduction to wild foraging principles followed by a walk featuring the wild plants and mushrooms around Rainbow Mountain. \nThis event is free\, open to the public. Children are more than welcome to attend\, but keep in mind that the subject matter and style of the walk is geared towards adults (there will be a lot of stops and discussion). Come prepared to hike through the woods\, and take pictures or notes if desired!
